Hello,

I took advantage of the confinement :((( to update fli4l 3.10.19.
But, impossible to install the new fli version on alix.2D3.
Here is the install screen:

alix hangs here with no information. I just updated the 0.99m bios. I
tested the very old fli version with the new bios it's ok.
I configured fli to the minimum base, hd, sshd and usb, here is the
config and test with normal and nonfree kernel

I use the same hardware, with fli4l 4.0 however, but that should make no
big difference for now. I guess you're using a serial console for
output?

Just try it, we would have released already, but we are struggling

Little feedback on the configuration fli4l 3.10.19 kernel nonfree.
RT2880F mini-pci does not work:

fli4l 3.10.19 # cat /bootmsg.txt (/etc/rc.d/rc130.wlan) ERR: No wlan
devices found, skipping initialization of wlan subsystem.

I would like to know if I can install a drivers or if it is necessary to
rebuild fli4l with the drivers for RT2880F (802.11n 72-288 Mbit/s)? and
if it can be done

I tested RT2661T (802.11g 54 Mbit/s) mini-pci it works with rt61 drivers

fli4l 3.10.19 # cat /bootmsg.txt (/etc/rc.d/rc130.wlan) ERR: No wlan
devices found, skipping initialization of wlan subsystem.
I did a little research, in my opinion rt2800pci should be the driver
for a rt2880* … however I could find no hint on this version being
support in later kernels only, but it was just some quick grepping in
the kernel source.

Is you card listed with `lspci` or `lspci -k`?

Is the 'rt2800pci' kernel module loaded? Do you see it with `lsmod`?

What does dmesg show, when you try to load that thing with modprobe or
insmod?

I had some 802.11n cards working with fli4l already, but that was
completely different hardware with other drivers.

That PCI ID 1814:0801 is not known by the Linux kernel, not in master
which is at v5.7-rc1 currently. I'm not entirely sure what to do about
this now, we could ask on the netdev mailing list, maybe someone knows
that card. It might help, if you have a precise description, e.g.
everything printed on the card, maybe some pictures?

Maybe there's a non mainline driver for this, or someone has it already
in development?

We could just add that PCI ID to the driver, but that's more or less
crossing fingers and seeing if it works, that might as well just fail at
runtime. Without knowing some details of the card, this is not the best
idea in my opinion.

modprobe -v rt2800pci

After that dmesg would show something, if the card is known to the
kernel. But as already written above, the kernel does not know about a
card with that PCI ID and so nothing happens, this is the expected
result.

If you want to use that WiFi card, I would recommend it. Adding new
cards to the kernel is a lot easier on recent kernels, no one would
support us to add a new card to kernel v3.16 … the chances to get
something to work are a lot better with kernel 5.4 or 5.6 in fli4l 4.0!

I did a little more research and found this:

- https://dflund.se/~triad/krad/dlink-dir-685/bootlog-orig.txt
- https://github.com/canalplus/r7oss/tree/master/G5/src/rt3662-modules-2.4.0.9.10
- https://github.com/kovz/ralink_inic

So it seems there is some out-of-tree vendor source code, but nothing in
mainline. I consider getting this to work would be an ambitious project.
If you're not really into kernel development, it's probably easier to
get another card, which is supported.

Hi, Alexander
Post by Alexander Dahl
Is you card listed with `lspci` or `lspci -k`?
fli4l 3.10.19 # lspci
-sh: lspci: not found
fli4l 3.10.19 # lspci -k
-sh: lspci: not found
This command does not work! Why?
Did you activate it in opt tools with OPT_LSPCI='yes'?

Looks good, including the mac80211 modules.

What does dmesg show, when you try to load that thing with modprobe or
insmod?
fli4l 3.10.19 # modprobe
fli4l 3.10.19 # insmod
BusyBox v1.22.1 (fli4l) multi-call binary.
That's not how those work, but it doesn't matter, the module is loaded
already. Did you check if a wlan interface ist present, e.g. with `ip
addr show`?

I think the rt2880 does not have in rt2800 driver
https://wiki.debian.org/rt2800pci
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/rt2880_inic
As I said, I looked in kernel code and at least in the help text it
says. lspci could be helpful, we could look for pci ids then.
